Backflow Certification

WHAT IS A BACKFLOW DEVICE?

Backflow devices are installed in any building which has potable water supplied to it.  They are installed to protect the potable water supply from contamination by water ‘back flowing’ into the system.  You’ve undoubtably seen them as you’ve driven around as all buildings are required to have them.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Even though there appears to be constant pressure in the water supply system, every now and then there can be reverse pressure which sucks water back into the pipes. Think of a water hose that is laying outside in a pool of water. If negative pressure occurs and it sucks water backwards, the dirty pool water would be injected into the water supply.

The backflow device prevents this by a series of valves which only allow water to flow one way, much like a turnstile in a subway station. This protects the safety of the water supply.

I RECEIVED A NOTICE TO HAVE MY BACKFLOW TESTED & INSPECTED.

Every year the local municipalities require property owners to have their backflows tested and inspected by a licensed Florida Contractor to ensure that they are working properly within the proper pressure ranges.  This is a service we perform daily at the Plumbing Experts.

WHEN CAN YOU TEST & INSPECT IT?

We test and inspect backflows daily.  We offer very competitive rates and offer discounts to clients with more than one backflow to certify (such as strip centers). Please call us or schedule online for an appointment!

MY BACKFLOW WAS STOLEN – WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?

Unfortunatetly, due to some of the metals the backflow devices are made out being valuable, theives sometimes cut and steal backflow devices. One service we provide to mitigate the risk of this is to install a concrete slab and backflow cage around the backflow device. While nothing is 100%, this provides an increased deterrent in high-risk areas.

If your backflow has been stolen or damaged, we can provide replacements right away or repair what is left.

CAN YOU REPAIR MY BACKFLOW?

Backflow devices can be damaged for a variety of reasons. Cars and lawn mowers can bump into them, thieves or vandals and damaged them or they can just come out of alignment due to the elements. The Plumbing Experts can repair or replace any backflow you have – so call us today or schedule an appointment and we’ll get you in compliance in no time!
